Were There Really Giants? The Ancient Mystery Nobody Can Fully Explain

Every ancient culture seems to have a version of the same story. Somewhere in the deep past, before the history we actually trust, there were giants. Not metaphorical giants. Actual towering figures, walking among ordinary people, often near temples and ruins that we still can't fully explain how ancient builders constructed.

I'm not a biblical scholar and I'm definitely not an archaeologist. But I grew up hearing about the Nephilim in Genesis, these mysterious "sons of God" who had children with human women, producing offspring described as giants. That's about the extent of my expertise. Which, on this show, qualifies me perfectly to ask the obvious question everyone tends to skip past.

Why Does Every Culture Have This Story

Here's what actually stopped me in my tracks when I started digging. This isn't just a Bible thing. Greek mythology has the Titans and the Gigantes. Norse mythology has the Jotnar. Hindu texts describe the Daityas. Native American oral histories from multiple tribes independently describe giant skeletons and giant beings. Even ancient Sumerian texts, some of the oldest writing we have, describe massive beings that don't fit into ordinary human history.

If this were just one culture's myth, it would be easy to write off. But when wildly disconnected civilizations, separated by oceans and thousands of years, keep describing the same basic thing, that's the part that makes you sit up a little.

The Ruins Make It Weirder

Then there's the architecture. Massive stone structures, precisely cut blocks weighing many tons, assembled with a level of precision that some modern engineers still debate how ancient people pulled off with the tools we assume they had. Baalbek in Lebanon is the one that gets brought up constantly, with foundation stones so large that even today's heaviest cranes would struggle.

Coincidence? Lost engineering knowledge? Or exactly what the old stories keep insisting, that whoever built some of this simply operated on a different scale than us?

I don't know. Genuinely.

What I Actually Think

I'm not going to sit here and tell you giants walked the earth. I'm also not going to pretend the questions aren't legitimate. Something is going on with how consistently and how anciently this idea shows up across cultures that had no contact with each other. That alone is worth wondering about out loud, instead of just filing it under myth and moving on.

Come Wonder About It With Me

This is exactly the kind of topic the IDK Talk Show exists for. Not a lecture, not a definitive answer, just an honest look at a mystery that's been sitting in plain sight across human history. If ancient giants, the Nephilim, or the mystery of pre-flood civilizations are your kind of rabbit hole, come talk it through with others in the IDK Talk Show community.
